Foundations of Algebra for Grades K-8

Pearson's new algebra readiness institute on Foundations of Algebra prepares and supports participants in grades K-8 to deliver high-quality, challenging, and accessible algebra instruction to help all students make sense of mathematics. Download agenda.

During this two and a half day institute, participants learn student-centered, problem-based teaching practices based on the Van de Walle Professional Mathematics Series that help build the foundational skills students need to succeed in algebra, from number sense and proficiency to rational number concepts. Through first hand experiences, participants will:

  • Investigate effective instructional practices
  • Develop valuable strategies for teaching students algebra
  • Increase understanding of student-centered math
  • Acquire tools to help students learn number sense, number proficiency, and rational number concepts
