Introduction to A+RISE Standards2Strategies™ - Research-based Instructional Strategies for ELLs
Presenter: Evelyn Arroyo, Author and Founder of A+RISE
We have current research on academic language. We have increased accountability for ELLs' academic progress. So why are ELLs struggling to meet state accountability measures? A critical link is missing at the classroom level: we must translate that excellent research into actionable instructional strategies aligned to state standards and integrated with academic content. Ms. Arroyo will present an effective but simple technological tool, Standards2Strategies®, to provide elementary and secondary teachers, administrators and school mentors/coaches to meet the linguistic needs of ELL students as they learn content: math, science, social studies, and English language arts. The A+RISE S2S online resource is aligned to state English Language Proficiency Standards for California, Florida, Texas, and WIDA ELP Standards (World-Class Instructional Design Assessment). A+RISE is a recent TX State Board of Education Adopted program.

Brain-Compatible Differentiated Instruction for English Language Learners
Presenter: Marjorie Hall Haley, Author and Professor
This webinar highlights the book, Brain-Compatible Differentiated Instruction for English Language Learners. Noted expert in brain theory and language learning, Dr. Marjorie Hall Haley, highlights effective instructional strategies and assessment practices that will accommodate ELLs. More than five million English language learners (ELLs) attend school in the United States (NCELA, 2009). This population has increased by approximately 57 percent during the last decade, drawing sharp attention to the individual and instructional needs of children who are nonnative speakers of English. The responsibility for providing appropriate instruction and assessment for ELLs does not rest solely with ESL-trained teachers, but with all teachers who have or are likely to have ELLs in their classrooms.
